3rd June Plan 1947 Notes In English: Lord Mountbatten Plan of 1947 Partition After its sweeping victory in the general elections held in 1946, Muslim League put in more vigour and vitality in the demand for Pakistan. Consequently, there was no way left for both, the government and the congress, except to compromise with the reality. On february 20, 1947, Mr. Atlee, annouced in the Parliament that the government would grant right of self-determination to India by june 1948. Pursuing this objective, and for making necessary arrangements, Lord Mountbatten was sent to India as a replacement to Lord Wavel, as viceroy. After his arrival, he observed and watched the new developments and came to the conclusion that it was more expedient to put into practice the scheme at the earliest and avoid delay.
